Matthew Miller is an undergraduate research assistant at Colorado School of Mines. Since Spring 2018, Matt has been working with Prof. Hua Wang and Prof. Branden Kappes on projects to extract information directly from measurements of both component-level and materials-level properties. These extracted features become input into the machine learning framework that Matt and other students from Dr. Wang’s group have developed to improve the quality of materials analysis: from high-resolution transmission electron microscopy to mechanical property data. In addition to software development, Matt has played a major role in developing the mathematics and algorithms that support the Optimize for AdditiveSM goals behind the research work in ADAPT. Matt expects to complete both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science in Spring 2020.
