Alex’s research is primarily focused on aiding the development of a qualification program for metal additively manufactured parts through the NASA University Leadership Initiative. Toward this end, he will be analyzing process data from multiple metal powder bed fusion (PBF) systems with various statistical methods and machine learning techniques to establish correlations between process parameters and as-printed part defects. The ultimate goal is to establish defect-based process windows for a range of PBF systems to increase the adoption and safety of metal additively manufactured parts.
